Best Career Options After B.Com – A Mistake I See Students Making Every Year

For more than 25 years, I have been interacting with commerce students as a Chartered Accountant and educator. One question I hear every year is:

“Sir, what are the best career options after B.Com?”

Interestingly, most students ask this question after graduation. In my opinion, they should ask it much earlier.

A common mistake I see is that students focus on completing their degree but do not focus on becoming employable.

Today, businesses are looking for practical skills such as Accounting, GST, Income Tax, TDS, Payroll, Tally Prime and Excel. Unfortunately, many students complete B.Com without getting exposure to these areas.

A few months ago, a student visited ITAP. He had completed B.Com with decent marks. However, during interviews he struggled because employers were asking practical questions about GST returns, accounting entries and TDS deductions.

After joining the Professional Business Accountant (PBA) Course at ITAP, he started working on practical assignments. Within a few months his confidence improved significantly because he could finally relate classroom concepts to real business work.

This is why I often tell students that the best career option after B.Com is not necessarily the most popular course. The best option is the one that helps you build practical skills and start your career.

The Professional Business Accountant (PBA) Course at ITAP focuses on Accounting, GST, Income Tax, TDS, Tally Prime, SAP, Zoho Books and business communication. These are skills that employers actively look for.

If you are confused about your career after B.Com, ask yourself one simple question:

“Will this course help me get a job and build a career?”

That answer is often more important than the course name itself.
